Taking a Look at The Best Las Vegas Strip Restaurants

Celebrity chefs are living the high life by creating gourmet cuisine at lavishly decorated Las Vegas Strip restaurants. Some intense gamblers don't mind "duking it out" over the buffets. Other high-rollers come here to experience the poignant flavors of Wolfgang Puck, Chef Emeril, Charlie Palmer and Michael Mina. In addition to world-renowned chefs, Las Vegas Nevada also has its fair share of homegrown heroes, including André Rochat, of André and Alizé, as well as Michael and Wendy Jordan of Rosemary's just west of the Vegas Strip.

The Las Vegas Strip offers fine dining cuisine only previously seen on TV. Since 1992, celebrity chefs have migrated to Vegas Nevada, choosing to roost in the vibrant city that never sleeps.

Chef Emeril Lagasse first carved a name for himself in New Orleans with his lobster bisque, "Tournedos au Poivre," which includes grilled petite beef medallions with roasted shallots and haricot vert, parmesan crusted baked tomato and brandy peppercorn sauce, filet mignon and signature banana cream pie with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and caramel sauce. Now visitors can enjoy delicious entrees in the $30-50/dish price range amid vaulted ceilings, quaint French doors and a petit grand piano at the "Delmonico Steakhouse."

For travelers who haven't quite hit it big at a Las Vegas casino yet, there are more modest offerings that are explosive in flavor but not in price. "Cravings" in the Mirage Hotel boasts the biggest menu over any other Las Vegas hotel restaurant, with buffet-style dishes from Japan, China, Mexico, France, Italy and more for $15-25/person.

"The Sterling Brunch" at Bally's Steakhouse fills bellies with seared salmon, smoked fish, bagels, fresh shrimp, waffles, omelets, sushi, sashimi and desserts, making this the ideal option for a special occasion, at only $30/person.

Another one of the best buffets in Vegas is at The Bellagio Hotel. Presentation is big here at this $32/person gourmet dining experience. There is a vast array of Italian, Chinese and American options. Just off the Vegas strip on Sahara is "Hash House A Go Go," which is ideal for families with five types of scrambled egg skillets, five kinds of eggs benedict or dinners, like sage fried chicken, stuffed meatloaf and blue crab cakes.

Many people gravitate to the Las Vegas Strip eateries in search of the famed "cheap buffets" and "$2 feasts" that the city was once exclusively known for. While much has changed, as celebrity chefs and intense competition has wreaked havoc on the prices, there are still some fantastic deals.

Ask for "the gambler's special" at Mr. Lucky's in the Hardrock Hotel for $7.77 that includes steak, shrimp, salad and potatoes. Slip inside the Klondike for $2.49 spaghetti, salad and breadsticks or $5.99 prime rib.

The Ellis Island Casino & Brewery offers 24/7 breakfasts that include two eggs and bacon for $2.95 or a 10 ounce sirloin steak and eggs for $5.95. Also try McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant for $1.95 Monday thru Friday specials (from 3:30 - 6:30 pm or 9:30 - 11 pm) to get tasty pub grub, like a half-pound cheeseburger, Buffalo wings, jalapeno poppers or southwest chicken empanadas. For low-priced but delicious buffets, check out Circus Circus, Main Street Station, The Orleans, Palace Station, The Palms and Sahara.

DVD Movie Review of Hancock starring Will Smith

Will Smith as a superhero intrigued me. This was not your stereotypical action hero. In fact, he was the opposite.

A superhero who was an anti-social alcoholic who didn’t actually like saving people this was something new to me. At last a new twist and I liked it. But was Hancock the type of superhero movie I was used to seeing?

The movie Hancock was more of an introduction to a new type of superhero that we aren’t used to seeing.

This installment of Hancock was more character motivated than action driven. And when I say this installment it means I would like to see more of Hancock in a superhero role.

The action sequences in this movie were miniscule and not too impressive. This was director Peter Berg’s first film using visual effects as critical parts of the movie. Evidently, it’s very apparent when you view the film. When you watch superhero films you expect the action scenes to be spectacular. You even expect to see something you’ve never seen before.

I hate to say the actions scenes in Hancock were lame. I was overly disappointed in Charlize Theron’s brief superhero stint. A woman with superhuman strength is always sexy and scene stealing.

But to Hancock’s credit I liked the storyline. I enjoyed Will Smith and Jason Bateman’s performances. This comedic superhero isn’t hard to watch. Will Smith even gives this superhero some heart. I think that Will Smith fans will enjoy this movie.

Hancock is one of those films you can either leave or take.

DVD Review of Ugly Betty Season 2

Who knew that the hit series Ugly Betty would turn out to be the beautiful swan that it is. Without a doubt, Ugly Betty Season 2 is just as enjoyable as the first.

America Ferrara who plays the role of Betty Suarez has taken the age old adage of inner beauty to new heights.

Ugly Betty Season 2 is filled with a steady stream of storylines. Its soap opera-ish quality means there is constant drama between several characters on the show. This makes this television show hot and fresh; never stale.

In the second season of Ugly Betty, Betty’s family copes with the lost of her sister’s fiancé and nephew’s father. Meanwhile Betty’s father Ignacio is stuck in Mexico hoping to make it back to the States.

Betty’s love life is turned inside out and heartache is imminent no matter what she decides. Daniel Meade continually falls in love with the wrong woman and the one most notable in Ugly Betty Season 2 is Wilhelmina’s sister played by Gabrielle Union.

Mother Meade is still on the run but determined to keep her family together and bring down big bad Wilhelmina.

As always we have Wilhelmina plotting to take over Mode Magazine. Whether it’s by marrying into the Meade family or any other scheme she can come up with. Don’t underestimate Wilhelmina as you will soon see in this season of Ugly Betty.

The two men in Betty’s life this season are Henry and newcomer Gino. In this season we see Betty began to spread her wings. Hard lessons are learned, devilish schemes are concocted and splashes of humor are thrown in where you don’t expect them.

The writing of young untainted love is captured beautifully. Betty Suarez reminds you of when you were young and loved hard and threw caution to the wind and tugs at your heartstrings when she suffers her deepest heartbreak.

Don’t forget we have the top notch love to hate villainess Wilhelmina Slater played superbly by Vanessa Williams. You couldn’t have a complete season without the wild and silly antics of office staff Amanda and Marc. The Suarez family warms your heart and shouldn’t be missed.

There are some shocking revelations and turn of events that you don’t expect. Will the Meade Empire survive it? Will Mode? Will the Suarez family? You’ll have to watch the Ugly Betty Season 2 DVD to find out.

DVD Review of Boston Legal Season 4

Boston legal has one of the most intimate, loving, committed relationships I’ve ever seen on television. And that relationship just so happens to be between two heterosexual males. Denny Crane and Alan Shore of Crane, Poole, and Schdmidt, two of Boston Legal’s finest.

David E. Kelley can make you hope and believe in anything. I actually believe if men could develop and keep relationships such as this one on Boston Legal the world would be a much better place.

In Season 4 of Boston Legal the most notable additions to the cast are John Larroquette and Tara Summers. Boston Legal Season 4 opens with Alan Shore defending senior partner Shirley Schdmidt. Jerry Espenson assists new lawyer Katie Lloyd on her very first case; which happens to be a capital murder trial. Clarence/Clarice Bell gets into trouble with the new senior partner Carl Sack played by John Larroquette. Alan in his newly committed relationship is given an ultimatum, and then enters a sexy litigator from his past to stir up trouble.

Wilds antics definitely ensue with this quirky cast of characters. But don’t let the side splitting laughter fool you. David E. Kelley and his staff of writers manage to brilliantly weave in up to the minute news stories with their ingenious twists along with the most talked about social issues of our day. Anything you might consider taboo is covered on Boston Legal and it’s done by giving equal time to both sides of the issue. If it shouldn’t be said or done then you know Denny Crane either does one or both.

Season 4 of Boston Legal will have you engaged from beginning to end. This is undoubtedly one of the best court room dramas ever done. This Emmy award winning series has single-handedly revived the careers of James Spader and William Shatner.

With that being said Boston Legal Season 4 is definitely one DVD worth watching.

by Francisca Cahyaningsih

You need some consideration in order to make a choice of the right holiday gifts for babies and toddlers. One consideration you need to put in mind is the purpose and function of the gifts toward the development of babies and toddlers. Showmars Casual Dining Fast a Restaurant Review

Showmars a staple here in Charlotte, North Carolina has more than 25 locations in Charlotte and the surrounding areas. This Greek inspired restaurant serves up delicious fast food in a casual dining environment.

There are 27 locations within Charlotte and its surrounding cities. Only two of the Showmars restaurants are franchises. Which is unique in itself and that’s why Showmars food and customer service is consistent at all locations. I have frequented several locations and the ones that stand out are the Dilworth and the Fort Mill location.

My Showmars favorites are the fresh flounder dinner and the gyro dinner and the Greek salad. The calabash shrimp dinner is an extremely popular item. The plates overflow with nice big pieces of shrimp.

Sandwiches you must try are Fresh Filet Fish sandwich, gyro, Grilled chicken pita, and the Old fashion pita burger. Showmars has the best fish sandwich in town. You’ll love their salads especially the Greek salads with grilled chicken or gyro meat.

Showmars has one of the most attentive and friendliest staffs. They take pride in their restaurants. Managers greet you at the door. They want you to have a pleasant experience so you’ll come back and again. And I do just that.

But no matter how nice the staff is you wouldn’t come back if the food wasn’t delicious. And Showmars exceeds your expectations.

Showmars prides itself in a fun friendly atmosphere which serves fresh cooked to order food at reasonable prices. Plus, they give you generous portions. I have to admit that Showmars delivers every time.

If you’re new to the Charlotte Area you need to pay them a visit as soon as you can. And if you’re passing through make this one of your stops.

I have three categories in which I put a dining experience in.
1. Recommended – Meaning I would eat there again and recommend it to others.
2. Toss up – Means you have to decide for yourself by visiting the establishment.
3. Drive By – Means keep on driving pass the restaurant.

So which category does Showmars fall in? I would have to say Recommended.

Until next time Bon appétit!

Grey’s Anatomy Season 4 a DVD Review

Ah, Grey’s Anatomy the baby of executive producer Shonda Rhimes. Is the fourth season of Grey’s Anatomy still going strong or does it begin to waiver? Let’s find out.

First, let’s briefly recap Season 3 of Grey’s Anatomy. In Season 3 Cristina is left at the alter by Dr. Burke which not only shatters Cristina but Meredith also. Izzy slept with George and told him that she was in love with him. The chief appointed Dr. Torres as chief resident instead of Miranda. Karev falls in love with his mystery patient Ava.

In Grey’s Anatomy Season 4 DVD we pick up where we left off last season. It’s a new day at Seattle Grace and fresh new interns have arrived. To everyone’s surprise Meredith’s sister Lexie is one of the new interns at Seattle Grace.

Cristina is left to pick up the pieces after Dr. Burke’s departure from her life and Seattle Grace. After watching again how love has failed someone Meredith quickly withdraws from Dr. Shepherd.

Izzy bordering on stalking George wants him to face the fact that they are in love with each other. Poor Dr. Torres realizes that her marriage is falling apart. George wants to do the right thing, but as usual love conquers all. Or does it? You’ll have to watch the Season 4 DVD of Grey’s Anatomy to find out.

Dr. Bailey who is the rock of Seattle Grace is having marital problems. We see how a woman whose career takes off strives to find a balance between work and home.

Typically in a medical drama you will see some very interesting medical mysteries, procedures and story lines that shock you and those that also pull at your heart strings. Grey’s Anatomy Season 4 DVD has all of that.

Seattle Grace has found a replacement for Dr. Burke who immediately takes a dislike to Cristina. McSteamy really needs a better story line. Now that Madison is gone it seems like they don’t know quite what to do with him.

One thing I did have a problem with is the back and forth between Meredith and Dr. Shepherd. Although, there has to be struggles and detours before the protagonist ends up with her love interest.

In the Season 4 DVD of Grey’s Anatomy unexpected relationships are formed revelations are revealed. Bonds are strengthened and a few surprises abound.

Overall Grey’s Anatomy Season 4 DVD is worth watching.

Desperate Housewives Season 4 DVD Review

In the fourth season of the DVD Desperate Housewives we begin with a brief recap of the previous season.

Gabrielle overheard Victor and his father saying that he made the right decision in marrying her because she will bring in the Latino vote. Gabby hurt by hearing this turns to Carlos. Susan and Mike finally made it down the aisle while Lanette found out that she has cancer. Bree arrived at Gabby’s wedding pregnant. And Eddie had climbed onto a chair and put a noose around her neck.

And that’s where season 4 DVD of Desperate Housewives picks up. Our four favorite housewives and Eddie are up to some crazy shenanigans as usual.

We have the revelation of Lanette’s cancer to the other housewives. One housewife loses a husband tragically, while ones husband battles a drug addiction. And one housewife is faking a pregnancy hoping not to be discovered.

We also have new neighbors on Wisteria lane. We have our very first gay couple and the much anticipated arrival of Dana Delany playing the character of Katherine Mayfair. Some of you may not know that originally Marc Cherry wanted Dana Delany for the role of Bree Van de Kamp. But due to other commitments she wasn’t able to accept the role.

I would just like to point out that things do happen for a reason. I don’t think anyone could have played the role of Bree better than Marcia Cross. It was a perfect match.

I also would like to mention that Gabrielle is one of the most hilarious characters on television. Eva Longoria-Parker should be nominated for an Emmy for her portrayal of Gabrielle Sollis.

In the season 4 DVD of Desperate Housewives a tornado hits Wisteria Lane. And we watch the housewives cope with the aftermath.

As always there is deception, betrayal, blackmail, and murder in this season of Desperate Housewives. But there is also love, friendship, loyalty, and overcoming obstacles as all women do but not before a few dirty little secrets are revealed.

So catch up with your favorite Housewives before season five premieres. Desperate Housewives Season 4 is currently available of DVD.

House Season 4 DVD Review

Before inserting the first DVD I wondered what the writers could do in this season of House to top the previous ones. And was that even possible? You know how some series start off with that fire and then the spark begins to wane. Would House grow stale and sizzle off?

Oh no, not House. I think this show just keeps getting better. Was this DVD worth its weight in gold? Yes it was. What can I say I love this mans wicked sense of humor.

As we left off in the previous season of House, Foreman had quit. House fired Chase and Cameron had resigned. So now House is without a team and his mandatory quest for replacements begins.

House hates the interviewing process and to Cuddy’s dismay he begins a “Survivor” like quest for his open positions.

The premise of searching for employees in the manner of elimination such as a reality TV show is ridiculous. But it works and it’s absolutely hilarious.

You may think House’s tactics are ludicrous. Crazy even, but I say crazy like a fox. His over the top antics are brilliant when you really think about it.

The fourth Season of House now out on DVD is filled with interesting medical mysteries along with a host of special guest stars. It will have you thoroughly entertained throughout this short but powerful season. With laughter, love, twists and turns with a bittersweet ending.

If you’re not watching House I don’t know what rock you’re living under.

This is on the most innovative, brilliantly written shows on television today. Not to mention the superb award winning acting of its lead character played by Hugh Laurie.

House Season 4 DVD is in stores now and available to rent at your local video store. Get out and pick up your copy of this DVD today.

To keep current with House this season it airs on the FOX network Tuesday nights this fall. And if you are new to House Seasons 1-3 are also available on DVD.

Grace After Midnight – A Book Review

The most chilling chapter I have ever read in any book was in Felicia Pearson’s memoir. It was the chapter called, “That’s why they call it Grandma’s House.”

After reading that chapter I had to immediately close the book. Imagining what happened was horrific and I knew I needed to end my reading for that night.

I first picked up this book because I was a fan of HBO’s “The Wire” and the series had just ended.

I wanted to know how someone so young could fill up the pages of a memoir.

My interest was piqued and that began my quest of finding out about this character they called, “Snoop.”

What I respected about her memoir was her honesty. No pretenses, no dressing it up—just plain truth.

This memoir takes you from the birth of “Snoop” who was a three pound cross-eyed crack baby. This book takes you through her formative years, adolescence, to where she is today.

You are a fly on the wall of the life of an urban teenager growing up in the streets of East Baltimore.

In this book Ms. Pearson grants you all access to her life. She shares her sexuality, her criminal past, her heartbreaks, and her loves.

This is a gritty in your face memoir well deserving of a read.

HBO’s Vampire Tale True Blood Premieres

Last night was the premiere of HBO’s new vampire series True Blood. New Orleans is the setting of this vampire tale and its heroine is Sookie Stackhouse a waitress at Merlotte’s bar and Grill. Sookie is played by Oscar winning actress Anna Paquin of the Piano and X-Men fame.

But Sookie is not your typical waitress she has the ability to read people’s thoughts. And in this day and age vampires have come out of the closet so to speak. Vampires are living their lives in the open. With this new synthetic blood perfected by the Japanese there is no longer a need for vampires to feed on humans.

In the True Blood premiere a vampire walks into the bar and sits in Sookie’s station. Sookie is immediately drawn to him and that’s when the fun begins.

I thought last night’s episode of True Blood was quite comical. This new take on the vampire genre is unique and interesting. If you’re looking for your typical run of the mill vampire tale you will be pleasantly surprised with something that is totally different. The producers and writers have made a concentrated effort not to be a story built on vampire clichés.

Sookie your southern heroine is vibrant, inviting and full of wit. Bill the vampire is of course dark, mysterious and ominous. You also have a host of supporting characters and I do mean characters that definitely bring something to the table. The “flaming” cook Lafayette Reynolds is sure to bring you some laughs this season if you like raunchy humor. There are villainous characters in True Blood I’m sure you’re going to love to hate.

For some the sex scenes in True Blood will be too racy. But with the history of the vampire; sex has always been an intricate part of their lives. I myself personally didn’t need the scenes. I need the sex but not the sex scenes. I think the story carried itself without them.

All in all I think True Blood is one to watch and will keep you coming back for more. To view the first complete episode click here.

Monty’s Seafood Grill A Big Disappointment

Monty’s Seafood Grill located at 15205 John J. Delaney Dr, in Charlotte, NC.

Going to Monty’s Seafood Grill was a last minute welcome surprise. My family had been raving about this restaurant for some time. And their last two ventures I had missed, so I knew that the next time I definitely wanted to go.

I always felt that a personal recommendation beats out a generic restaurant review anytime.
Well, let’s get to it!

My first indication of quality at Monty’s Seafood Grill began with the bread basket. The salads had already arrived and my sister inquired about bread. The waitress replied, “I’ll bring it right out to you—it just came out of the oven.”

Unless they have invented some new ovens that cool food instead of heating… I’m going to have to say she didn’t tell the truth.

We ordered fried calamari for our appetizer. I love calamari and I know what good calamari tastes like. And this wasn’t good calamari.

It was salty and greasy. Besides burning food the worst thing you can do is over salt it. Too much salt is an amateur mistake. No one should have to experience that while dining out.

For my entrée I had Roasted Lemon Thyme Chicken with home made fries, and collard greens.
The chicken was bland; the home fries were missing potatoes if that’s even possible. And the collard greens had some flavor but they were dirty.

My grandmother always told me, “You have to clean collard greens very well. Because if you don’t they taste gritty.” Someone should tell Monty this.

After our meal the hostess came over to the table and asked, “Did everyone enjoy their meals?”

My sisters piped up, “yes we did.”

Meanwhile one of my sisters’ had hid the fat from her filet mignon in the bread basket. And my other sister sent back her wedge salad because the dressing was disgusting.

But me, I didn’t answer.

So the hostess looked at my plate and asked, “And how was your chicken?”

My reply was, “It was all right.”

And her reply was, “well chicken is chicken.”

“Way to stand up for your restaurant,” I thought. But I really wanted to say, “Chicken can be tasty and seasoned.

I have three categories in which I put a dining experience in.

1. Recommended – Meaning I would eat there again and recommend it to others.
2. Toss up – Means you have to decide for yourself by visiting the establishment.
3. Drive By – Means keep on driving pass the restaurant.

So which category does Monty’s Seafood Grill fall in? I would have to say Drive by.

Until next time Bon appétit!

TNT’s Raising the Bar Premiere Falls Short

I was horribly disappointed in last night’s TNT series premiere of Raising the bar.

When you hear a name like Steven Bochco immediately you remember shows like Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law and NYPD Blue. These were top notch television series Emmy nominated and award winning with phenomenal writers and talented actors. These series have created some of the most memorable characters in television history.

Steven Bochco is to television like Steven Spielberg is to movies. So when you hear that Stephen Bochco is producing another series on TNT it instantly grabs your attention.

To my dismay TNT’s Raising the Bar didn’t live up to any of its predecessors. The commercial previews of Raising the Bar were more interesting that the show in its entirety.

I have enjoyed Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s performance in the hit series NYPD Blue and the same goes for Gloria Reuben’s performance in E.R. But in TNT’s Raising the Bar the performances fell flat, with subpar writing, bad direction and a poor supporting cast.

I wanted to like the show. I love a good courtroom drama. TNT’s Raising the Bar just wasn’t it.
Jane Kaczmarek’s character was unbelievable. I know they wanted her to be the “Queen Bee” of Raising the Bar but her character just came off as rather cartoonish.

Apparently, the writers wanted last night’s episode to be heart wrenching but they didn’t introduce the characters long enough for you to care about them.

I have to admit that some series premieres have fallen short but have improved over time. However, time is extremely valuable and unfortunately I won’t be giving TNT’s Raising the bar any more of mine.

Bar – B- Q King as featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives

Bar-B-Q King was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives one of my favorite shows on the food network. It’s hosted by Guy Fieri.

Bar-B-Q King is located right here in the Queen City Charlotte, North Carolina.

I’ve drove by The Bar-B-Q king several times while driving around the city of Charlotte. At times I wondered if it was still a working establishment. Being a big city girl I wasn’t too familiar with the drive in concept. I was curious as to how they worked but was too scared to ever try one.

While watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives I see Guy Fieri on my television screen raving about this Drive-In located right in here in Charlotte, North Carolina.

If you’ve had the pleasure of watching Guy’s show I know there are a multitude of places that he has visited that you just want to try for yourself.

Unfortunately, not all of them are located right in your own backyard. So when Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives featured the Bar-B-Q King I knew it was a place that I had to try out for myself.
I’ve never seen a food establishment that Guy didn’t like. Definitely wanting to see what the hype was all about I ventured out on my own.

So Guy Fieri put your money where your mouth is.

The first thing I wanted to do was try what they are famous for and that’s the Bar-B-Q. So I ordered a Bar-B-Q plate and a quarter Bar-B-Q chicken dinner. And yes I did have family members there to help me out.

I have to admit the Bar-B-Q chicken was different from any version of Bar-B-Q chicken that I have ever tasted. This particular Bar-B-Q chicken is deep fried first then dipped in their secret Bar-B-Q sauce that the owners use for their Bar-B-Q. It might sound strange but it works.
I do need to let you know that I am a huge fan of Bar-B-Q. And I have tasted some of the best Bar-B-Q that is out there.

Now this Bar-B-Q isn’t the best out there but it’s definitely one of the better ones here in Charlotte, NC.

If you’re expecting five star services—get over yourself. You’re only expected to get your eat on and drive away.

I have three categories in which I put a dining experience in.

1. Recommended – Meaning I would eat there again and recommend it to others.
2. Toss up – Means you have to decide for yourself by visiting the establishment.
3. Drive By – Means keep on driving pass the restaurant.

So how do I rate Bar-B-Q King? I would have to say: Recommended.

Until next time Bon appétit!
